I thought I’d do something a little bit different. I’m sure you have seen this sort of thing numerous times, but I wanted to do Pride and Prejudice bits using social media!
I wanted to do several more than this, but it took a surprising amount of time, so please forgive me! Also, I made these with photographs (of flowers, etc.) I had personally, so please also forgive the self-insert at the end which is obviously not Regency.
And here we go!
What social media accounts are you most active in? I suspect not many of you use Reddit (though I could be wrong) – but have you at least read about the saga of Jean and Jorts? That’s posted on a community that I am more kindly spoofing above as “Am I the Jerk?” with a post by Darcy.
There are a lot of good social media generators out there – if you just do a quick search for something like “tweet generator,” you can find one! I would love to see your own versions in the comments. I’m sure there are a lot of you who have a lot of funny things to say!
Whose social media account would you be most interested in? And who do you think would use what? I felt like Collins would probably do long and rambling posts on Instagram, but beyond that, I wasn’t entirely sure!
This was so freaking cute! Loved it!
Thank you!! I had fun!
What fun! Beautiful dress, by the way. I’m not on Facebook any longer, but I do use Instagram. I’m on Goodreads and Pinterest too! (On a side note, I’m not sure why the page entered a 4.5 rating for the post. That was not my doing!!)
Thank you!
I don’t think I’ve ever posted on Instagram, but I do enjoy looking at stuff on Goodreads, and I like to use Pinterest for my kids’ birthday parties!
Dang! I would really have enjoyed reading the comments from AITJ! Surely they all would have agreed that he IS the jerk!
Hahaha. I am sure they would! Except for Mr. Collins – I think he would be on Darcy’s side, heh heh.
I only use Facebook, and that only because my daughter set it up. She also set up Instagram but I only look at that if she or my son post photos of my grandsons! I did used to be fairly competent but age and technology leave me stumped!
Thanks for this different post! Lovely wedding dress!
I remember getting on Facebook when you had to prove you had a college email address! I felt like I was pretty “with” it back then, and I had a LiveJournal, webpage, etc.
But I feel like I eventually fell behind on all the social media trends, and I only have a vague feeling of what is most appropriate for what and what features are out there. Is Instagram better than Facebook for posting photos of kiddos? I just don’t know what is best!
And thank you!
I am actually on Reddit, and I often read the subreddit you are spoofing for entertainment value. Your version was hilarious! I would have loved to have read the “comments,” but of course those would have taken a lot of time for you to write. BTW, there’s also a subreddit for Janeites that often sparks some interesting discussions! (r/janeausten) Fun post! ?
I didn’t know there was a subreddit for Janeites! That does sound fun!
The subreddit spoof was the most time-consuming. I couldn’t find a social media generator that would do it, so I had to alter the HTML while I was on the page in addition to figuring out a suitable date/time for it, and then I had to take a screenshot and alter things further in Paint. It was definitely my favorite to do, though!
It would be fun to do an expansion that included comments, but I’ll have to really think about it due to the aforementioned alterations that I have to make. I’m not sure how well things will line up for my screenshot, but I could probably get it figured out. Definitely thinking about it just because I enjoyed it!
Hahahah, these are great!
Thank you!!
I would be most interested in Lizzy Bennet’s account. And probably the Dashwood Sisters if they had one! I don’t have any social media accounts.
Yeah, sometimes I would really like to disconnect from social media!
But there are several things that I really enjoy about some of the platforms, so it would be really hard to give it up!
Cute idea.
To answer your question, I don’t have or use any social media apps. This site is the closest I come 😉
Thank you! I’m sure you appreciate being disconnected from social media – it does eat up a lot of time!
This is precious! What a creative and fun post.
Thank you! I had fun doing it!
Very creative! I loved it.
😀 I appreciate it!
This was hilarious. I loved the last picture. What a lovely wedding dress.
I am not on any social media platforms other than Goodreads. I don’t tweet, face, or use any of those platforms. Years ago, students hacked my cellphone and created all manner of havoc. They changed my greeting to let male callers know what I could do for them. Yeah, it was crazy. They blocked their numbers from me and left me all sorts of messages with them laughing in the background… thinking they were hidden. LOL! I thought it was hilarious.
Back in the day… I used to work for the phone company and knew there is ALWAYS a computer that knows who is calling and from where. It was a few short steps from obtaining that list [court order… my cousin was a lawyer and I went to school with the judge] and having the Sheriff’s office call each student along with their parents into their office and let’s just say… I was NEVER bothered after that. I still laugh to this day when I tell the story. I also still have their letters of apology. They had to pay my phone bill as they made so many calls the overages doubled my bill. Those were the days.
My service provider was recently bought out and my old phone had to go by the wayside. I am still trying to learn how to use an iPhone. LA! I used to be on top of technology and now… not so. I admire you younger people who can do anything. I had to have my nephew help me set up the stupid thing… or was it me that was stupid… over the Christmas break. I’ll learn one of these days. This post made me laugh. You know this would be a fun novelette or something… think about it.
Wow!!! That is a great story! I work as a legal assistant at a law firm and feel like I appreciate your story on an “extra” level, so to speak. That is great that they even had to pay your phone bill because of it! I would have been so mortified if I had been the parent of one of those students! But they definitely deserved what they got!
I’m good with things like Word and Paint (and mediocre at Photoshop), but when it comes to technology itself, I’m sort of “meh” at it. But my husband recently recommended that I get the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and it makes me feel like I’m “cutting edge” since very few people have a flip phone where the screen bends. The good thing is that once you learn the sorts of things you want to do on a phone, the way you do them usually doesn’t change much as long as you stick with the same sort of phone.
Glad the post made you laugh! That’s definitely a fun idea about doing a novelette! I’m going to keep it in mind!
That was a great story about your students. You sure had the last laugh. They must have been very surprised to hear from the sheriff!
I have used reddit, twitter and Facebook but I don’t really use any of them with any degree of frequency. Loved all the posts especially Am I a Jerk.
Glad you liked it!
I mostly just post on Facebook, but I like reading stuff on Reddit and Twitter here and there!
