There are a few announcements I need to make, which will preempt what I had originally planned for this month’s post. So let’s bump that to next month and get on with it!

Before we do, however, there is a bit of housekeeping I need to get out of the way. For those who read my post last month, Pulvis Lodge, I Presume?, you will remember I discussed the disagreement surrounding the name of that place. Is it Purvis, or is is Pulvis? The question has been answered as well as it can be. As ladypakal did the legwork to answer the question, I will post her own words here:

One last comment. I know that the Jane Austen museum ( has a first edition copy, so I emailed them to ask. This is the reply (they were really quick at getting back to me).

“Thank you for getting in touch with us. I’ve had a look in the 1813 first edition of Pride and Prejudice (an object I always enjoy looking at!) and it says Purvis Lodge.
I also looked in some of our other older editions including the 1894 Hugh Thompson illustrated edition, a 1905 edition and a 2003 edition, and they all said Purvis Lodge with an ‘r’. In fact, I couldn’t find any with Pulvis in at all. How interesting!”

I wonder when the typesetting error crept in, and is it a regional thing – maybe when it was prepared for a different country?

The original 1813 copy says Purvis, so we will have to go with that. I have heard there may have been some errors in the original printing run, but at this point it seems silly to quibble and attempt to suggest this was one of those mistakes. Thus, for me, from now on it will be Purvis. Thank you, ladypakal, for looking into that for us all! I will also note I have no plans at present to go back over my previous novels and make corrections. I mean to slowly go through the older ones at some point and update them with corrections to mistakes and I will handle the Purvis issue then. Until then, however, do not be surprised if you see it spelled Pulvis in my older works.

Now for the updates!

First, I would like to announce that (finally) I am launching my personal website. As some of you may know, I am not fond of all the additional minutia that goes with being an author and I am not in any way a web developer. I want to write books, not do all that other stuff! Well, a few weeks ago I decided it was high time I got off my butt and started getting my website going. The URL is, but if you go there now you will see a “coming soon” page. This post goes live on June 23, and the launch is planned for June 27. This will also lead more sites down the road. Lelia and I have teased a blog for some time that has not gotten off the ground, and that site will be part of my tasks in the coming weeks/months. If you have been to lately, you might notice that I have fixed some issues there too. Further renovations are planned.

I should note the initial launch of my site will have all the required content, but it will be a pretty simple design. What I plan for it is a place you can go to get up to date information on me and my work, along with my personal blog. It will also eventually feature an expanded signup form that will allow you to get updates when I post if you so choose. But that will be sometime down the road–hopefully weeks rather than months. Other content also includes progress meters for current works in progress, an expanded bio, and links to all my books.

As for the blog content, I plan on doing more personal and less informational. You might see a post on what I am working on at the moment, or maybe I will write about some part of the writing process. I might also have posts on what I am learning to play, or some recordings of a barbershop quartet group I have recently joined. (Some of you may know that I sing and play piano. Both are longstanding interests.) I will not have a posting schedule per se, but I mean to blog once or twice a week. I will make an announcement on the FB page when the site goes live. Please also note that comments are turned off for the present until I can get things running smoothly.

For my second announcement, the second book in the Bonds of Life set, titled Bonds of Love, has been firmly scheduled for release on September 16. The writing has commenced and is a fair distance toward completion. Any further information I will post on my own blog, and will undoubtedly have updates in future posts on this site. If you have read the first novel Bonds of Friendship, you will know that the second installment will take us places that I have never gone before as a writer. If you have been waiting for the second one to come out, you will be able to read both on Kindle Unlimited as I mean to leave Bonds of Friendship there for the duration.

Third, I often get questions about the continuation of the Courage Always Rises trilogy, which has been stuck at the first book for some time. I am pleased to announce that I have made significant progress on the outline for the second book, and should have it completed shortly. Before I even think of releasing book 2, however, I mean to outline book 3. (I will not make that particular mistake again.) Given the fact that outlining is a task that can run very hot and cold for me, I do not have a timetable for release of either of these works, nor do I have titles just yet. When the outlines are complete, I will have a better idea of timelines and will release my estimates at that time.

Finally, I want to note that the local government where I live has announced that we will be completely open and restriction free on July 1! Woo hoo! Of course, the city has decided to be a bunch of scrooges and will keep the mask mandate until the July 5, but that should be gone soon. I am so tired of all this lockdown stuff. Time to get back to normal. Here is hoping we are all back to normal soon.

Looking forward to your new books, Jann. And, yes, a website seems to be a have-to as well.

I’m glad someone knew where an original copy of P&P was available. The only thing I could confirm was that the name Purvis was found on several name lists and a business, whereas Pulvis didn’t even show up anywhere. That’s what made me think, short of questioning Jane Austen, that Purvis might be the correct spelling. 99% sure is not a 100% but is close enough to do the job. 🙂

You certainly have been busy. I am so glad you are up and running… with your writing, blog attempts, and government mandates. I wish you all manner of success on the launch of your next book. Blessings, stay safe, and healthy.

Congrats on the upcoming book and all the website, blog, etc., news. I simplified my website about a year ago and I only blog on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, instead of the 5 days per week I had in the beginning. I was killing myself and taking hours away from family and my writing.
