I have been very busy writing in the last week or two, trying to finish a book. I had hoped to have it completed by … well … today. I worked very hard at it, but I’ve realized that I’m not going to make it. (I’m finishing this post up on Thursday, February 24th.) I don’t think it will take much longer, though. I hope not, anyway. LOL
The week of the 14th, I wrote more than 12,000 words. A little more than 5,000 of those were written on Saturday, the 19th. It’s been a very long time since I’ve had such a productive day/week, and it felt really good to get it done! This week has not been as productive, in part because of sleep issues and in part because I have not given my brain the quiet time it needs in the mornings to think. I’ll be shutting off the morning videos from now on. LOL
Let me tell you a little about this new story.
First, this poor tale has gone more than two months without a title. I hope to have one soon, because I’d like to start working on the cover, but for now, it’s title-less.
Second, this has been a Patreon-exclusive story, which means the only place I have posted it so far is on my Patreon page. Only patrons can read it for now. That will change once they get their reward copies. I’ll share it on the Darcy and Lizzy forum at that time and start giving free copies away.
As is usual with my books, this story begins with Our Dear Couple (henceforth referred to as ODC) falling pretty much instantly in love. They get pulled apart a couple times, and there is some despair in each of them as they wonder when they’ll see each other again and if they can really be together forever.
In this book, I have made everyone a bit younger, because I begin the story in an earlier year than canon (1805 instead of 1810/11.) Darcy is twenty-two and will come into his inheritance over the course of the story. Elizabeth is fifteen. The ages of other canon characters are adjusted to fit.
There are some original characters at the beginning, who have leased Netherfield. Only some of them approve of ODC’s romance. These characters will not be the main villain(s), though. The House of de Bourgh will play a major role in trying to keep Darcy and Elizabeth apart.
Of course, since I write romance, Darcy and Elizabeth will get a Happily Ever After. Together. With each other.
I do not have a release date yet, but I do plan for it to be sometime next month. I plan to do a pre-order, which I don’t always do but feel is required this time. I also plan to do a giveaway here in March. Hopefully, it will be just before or on the day of the book’s release. We have to wait and see on that. LOL
Since this post is so short, I thought to tease you a bit with ODC’s first meeting. I hope you enjoy it.
Darcy accepted a cup of tea from Grace, who was assisting her mother. He smiled at her and nodded, but did not speak. His cousin returned to Theodosia’s side, and he began to examine the other ladies. On one side of the woman identified as Mrs. Bennet sat a girl with similar coloring to his cousin. She sat primly without speaking, a small smile seemingly permanently attached to her face.
On the other side of Mrs. Bennet was another girl, younger than the first and with dark hair instead of blonde. Where Miss Bennet, as Darcy supposed she was called, exuded serenity, this young lady was more expressive. She had blushed when Mrs. Bennet spoke and lifted her cup to take a sip of tea when Lady Lucas spoke of Sir William. Darcy tilted his head as he watched her. There was something about her that drew his notice, though he could not put his finger on it.
Suddenly, as though she sensed his gaze, her eyes met his and he was frozen in place. The two stared at each other for a long moment, until a nudge from the older girl sitting on her other side startled her, and she looked away.
Darcy remained still, his heart pounding, as his mind slowly began to function again. He drew in a deep breath, glanced at the intriguing young lady once more, and then examined her companion.
And there you have it. Let me know below what you think. Have you figured out who Grace and Theodosia might be?
