A New Book, and Its Inspiration

A New Book, and Its Inspiration

For all of us, 2020 has been a rough year. I was no exception. Changes, good or bad, always throw me off (I require stability to be creative), and this year was one big, massive, unstable change. LOL

I knew in the summer, when I spent weeks without writing anything more than blog posts, that I needed to do something to help me figure out how to get back into writing mode. I took a class that helped me find my strengths and use them to plan my writing schedule and to get unstuck when a story had me backed into a corner.

I wanted to write a Christmas story back in July, but had to abandon it because I got stuck. In all, this year I abandoned four stories. I knew I needed to publish one more before the year was out, so, after the class I took, I sat down and thought about what to write.

I decided, after a discussion with a couple friends, to write something that pleased me, even if no one else liked it. Now, that can be a dangerous thing when one is a JAFF writer who lives off her writing income. However, I knew it would come easily if I did that. So, I prayed about it and then sat down and laid out the basics of a Christmas story. The result is Darcy’s Yuletide Wedding.

The book is live on all the major channels at this point, and is posting on DarcyandLizzy.com. I have given copies away in my Burton’s Babes Facebook readers group, and to my email list. Now, I want to give a couple copies away here.   To win one of two eBook copies of Darcy’s Yuletide Wedding, all you have to do to enter is leave a comment at the bottom of this post before 11:59 pm Eastern on Thursday, January 7, 2021. Regina will announce the winners on Sunday, January 10, 2021.

In case you’re wondering what I have planned next, I have happily taken up the notes from one of the previously-mentioned abandoned stories and made a new notebook for it. (I can’t find the previous one, which is a whole other story. LOL) Hopefully, I’ll have a new release in two or three months. 🙂

Hi Zoe! Thanks for sharing such an honest post with us. I too have struggled with my writing this year – not so much because of the ongoing global crisis but more because I was having plot issues with my WIP and it did require a lot of editing. I got quite disillusioned with it for a while, but I’m very glad I stuck with it. The end result is my very first Pride and Prejudice variation, ‘Elizabeth and Darcy: Beginning Again’, which I’m really happy with now and pleaded to be sharing with the world soon!

Good luck with your new release, hope it does well and that 2021 is a much better year for us all! 🙂

I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. Last year wasn’t much different than every other year – except not seeing certain people and having to wear a mask the few times I go to town. Don’t forget to look at the “good” things that balance out the “bad” things, and remember, it’s not good, it’s not bad, it just is. And it is on the way, not in the way. 😉

Happy New Year! Would love to read your book! I’m unemployed and my only luxury is KU. So if books are not in KU I don’t get to read them. 🙁

Zoë, it’s always amazed me that you and other Jaff writers can come up with SO MANY ideas! I can’t fathom it, and I admire you so much. I am sorry that you struggled this year but glad you found ways to get unstuck and continued to lean on your faith in the process. Good luck with your new release!

I think everyone is feeling the exhilaration of the new year. It is so invigorating and feels like a fresh new start. I love the start of a new year. Whew! Lord preserve us from last year’s effects. Goodness. I never want to go through a year like that again. I am so happy you were able to regain your thoughts and ideas. Blessings on all your hard work. I’m not on Facebook so didn’t know you were launching a new book. Thank you for the generous giveaway. Good luck to all in the drawing. Everyone stay safe and healthy in 2021.

Congratulations on a new story, Zoe. And I can identify with your 2020 as well. Mine just had a different reason with my move from Texas to Illinois. Working on getting back in the groove for 2021. Stay safe and healthy.
